Czech Circuits: Enge and Charouz Racing System celebrate Czech titles - 26.10.2008

The Charouz Racing System won everything what was in stake in the last race of the International Czech championship D4 class on Saturday. Both Mercedes AMG DTM C-class were on the top after the race championship classification was closed and scored another two titles. Tomas Enge won D4 overall title and together with Antonin Charopuz and Stefan Mücke was also the endurance crown. It was fort Czech title for both Tomas and Stefan while Antonin Charouz improved his own record to 38 home championships.

The last race of the Czech championship is unique Epilog. Only first three hours are counted towards the championship, and another three hours remaining decide the race winner. The car No. 1 won both three hours championship and six hours Epilog classification. Tomas Enge, Antonin Charouz, Stefan Mücke, Adam Lacko shared the car while the No.2 was driven by the same crew with just one change, Jarek Janis was there instead of Lacko.

”It is not only my success. I must say big thanks to the whole team and also to my teammates. They worked very well and I am happy to have first Czech titles after many years racing abroad,” says Tomas. “It was difficult race in tricky conditions. The track was damp as the race started, it was not easy to pick up the right tyres. There was heavy traffic, I lost side doors after a contact with other car, spun on the dirt, a lot of drama.”

“Congratulations to Tomas, he has his first home titles after many international successes. I am also happy for our crew title. It was hard season with fight till the last lap of the last race. I think that fans must have enjoyed the fight,” said Antonin Charouz.

“I am pleased to get the first Czech title because the championship has a very high level. If I get an offer for next year I will accept it without hesitation. It is just pity that we lost second car just 10 minutes before six hours mark. We lost almost sure second place,” explained Stefan.

Without title but still very happy was Jarek Janis, who drove the No. 2 car. It was his second race after long brake caused by a spinal injury from Spa 2007 and once again Jarek confirmed that he is fully fit and quick as always.

“Like in the Autumn Prix of Brno I again drove as hard as I could also in the Epilog. It was a great race and I am happy that we met our targets. Everyone had some difficult moments. Mine came when a tyre exploded at full speed on the main straight. Fortunately, I kept the car under control, used gravel, just avoided armco and got back to the pits for a wheel change,” said Jarek.
